PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antistatic agent which has not only a high antistatic ability but also colorless transparency, solubility (compatibility) in resins or solvents, heat resistance and moisture resistance, and does not contain a metal or a metal ion. SOLUTION: The antistatic agent comprises a phosphorous anion on which three catechol derivatives are arranged, and an onium cation and is, for example, tributyl ammonium tris[1,2-benzenediolato(2-)-O, O']phosphate. The method for producing the compound comprises reacting a catechol derivative with phosphorus pentachloride in a solvent to produce an onium salt such as a tributyl ammonium salt.
