PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the surface temperature of a slab in a continuous casting machine without receiving the restriction in the setting place of a measuring apparatus. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave in a millimeter wave region radiated from a slab 7 in a continuous casting machine is received by a horn antenna 102, and the surface temperature of the slab 7 is measured using the electromagnetic wave in a millimeter wave region received by the horn antenna 102. By this constitution, a measuring apparatus can be miniaturized, thus the surface temperature of the slab 7 in the continuous casting machine can be measured without receiving the restriction in the setting place of the measuring apparatus.
