730,136. Moulding tower-packing elements &c. from clay &c. UNITED STATES STONEWARE CO. July 7, 1953, No. 18792/53. Class 87 (2). In a method of making' a succession of similar tower-packing elements from a clay composition, a strip of the material is fed in channel form 11, with a rib 11 a, Fig. 3, between rolls 12, 15 and on between rolls 12, 19 where it is shaped as shown in Fig. 11, with reinforcing ribs 10a, 10b, 10c. The rolls 12, 15, 19 are geared together and roller 12 makes successive half-revolutions, with intervening stationary periods during which the shapes are severed from the strip, by means of a one-way over-run clutch 30, 32 having a rack and pinion 31, 33 operated by crank 35 on driving shaft 36. The strip is then severed, to give the moulded shape of Fig. 11, by knives 37 reciprocated by pitman links 42 and eccentrics 41 on driving shaft 36 the moulded shapes being dislodged from roll 12 by member 45. |
