PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a large cross section tunnel of polygonal shape improvable in yield strength against soil pressure, in a short construction period. SOLUTION: The large cross section tunnel 1 is constructed by joining a plurality of outer shell components 2 (2A-2H) to construct an outer shell part 3, and eliminating sediment existing inside the outer shell part 3 by excavation. The outer shell part 3 is constructed so that its cross-sectional shape is a polygon of at least a hexagon, and the outer shell components 2 have bent cross-sectional shape with the sides cut between the corner parts of the polygon.
