PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealant for an optical semiconductor device hardly causing cracking or peeling even when used in a hostile environment. SOLUTION: This sealant for an optical semiconductor device contains a silicone resin reactant having a cyclic ether-containing group and a thermocuring agent reactable with the cyclic ether-containing group of the silicone resin reactant, and the silicone resin reactant is obtained by a reaction of at least one type of component among a monofunctional carboxylic acid and a monofunctional amine compound with a silicone resin having a cyclic ether-containing group. This optical semiconductor device 1 contains an optical semiconductor element 3 and a sealant 4 for an optical semiconductor device provided for sealing the optical semiconductor element 3.
