PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing rod having an upper plug whose state of attachment to the fishing rod can be easily checked. SOLUTION: An upper plug 8 is detachably fixed to the tip section S of a butt rod 5 (fishing rod A). The upper plug 8 has a columnar plug body 9 fitted to the opening 5a of the tip section S of the butt rod 5 and a cylindrical body 10 which is overlayed on the tip section S of the butt rod 5 to cover the opening 5a, and the circumferential wall 10b of the cylindrical body 10 is provided with through-holes 11 each of which penetrates it from its inside to its outside so as to make it possible to visually check its inside from the outside through each through-hole 11. The through-holes 11 are each an oblong hole extending in the circumferential direction of the circumferential wall 10b of the upper plug 8 and are juxtaposed in a plurality of numbers in the circumferential direction of the circumferential wall 10b.
