PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subtitle synthesizer which receives information including the character information and the video information, and synthesizes a subtitle that is generated from the character information and a video that is generated from the video information by the desired size and placement. SOLUTION: The synthesizer 10 includes a size changing unit 28, a subtitle processing unit 32 and a screen composition unit 34. The size changing unit 28 generates video data 62 showing a video that is obtained by reducing a video indicated by the video information 48 based on the video size information 60 which specifies the size of a video display region, and the subtitle processing unit 32 generates subtitle data 70 based on the subtitle size information 66 which specifies the size of a subtitle display region and the character size information 68 which indicates the size of a character displayed in the subtitle display region. The screen composition unit 34 compounds the video data 62 and the subtitle data 70 according to the video position information 94 indicating the display position of the video display region and the subtitle position information 96 indicating the display position of the subtitle display region, and then outputs compounded data 98 to a display 200.
