<p>A job-processing method and apparatus for routing a print job to one of a plurality of printers, each of the punters having a low-power (sleep) state and a powered-up (idle or busy) state. The method comprises determining S150 a destination printer from data included in the print job and determining S151 whether or not the printer is in the low-power state. If it is, then an alternative printer is selected and its state determined. If the alternative printer is powered-up, then the print job is re-routed (re-directed) to the alternative printer for printing (S157 or S159). This method may only be carried out during user configure time periods. The alternative printer may belong to a group of printers to which the destination printer also belongs. This group may be printers which are proximate to each other, printers than can or cannot print in colour, or printers which similar costs or power consumption.</p> |
