PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a printing blur and a slip caused when two sheets are carried in a partially overlapping manner when switching back a document. SOLUTION: This document carrying device includes a paper feeding tray, an image reading part for reading an image of the document delivered from the paper feeding tray, a paper ejecting tray for ejecting the document read by the image reading part, paper ejecting roller pairs 43 for switching back and carrying the document of reading a surface by the image trading part again toward the image reading part, and reversal roller pairs 44 for switching back and sending out the document of reading obverse-reverse surfaces to the paper ejecting tray, and is provided with a first disjunction device 82a for separating and bringing the paper ejecting roller pairs 43 into pressure contact and a second disjunction device 82b for separating and bringing the reversal roller pairs 44 into pressure contact, and switches respective separation and pressure contact by a disjunction switch 81 for simultaneously operating in response to the carrying timing of the document by the first and second disjunction devices 82a and 82b.
