[Also in Group XXVIII] In a liquid filter comprising a filter cloth 8, Fig. 1, festooned over spaced rods 6 and held in an open-ended frame 7, the ends of the rods 6 and the edges of the cloth 8 are embedded in a moulded or cast sealing compound which forms the frame 7. During assembly adjacent ends of the rods 6 carried by jig plates 10, Fig 2, are embedded in molten resin 12 contained in a mould 11 to form the bottom of the frame. After setting, the plates 10 are removed and the other ends of the rods are similarly embedded in molten resin after which the cloth 8 is positioned and opposite ends thereof and the rods round which they pass are in turn embedded in resin contained in a mould. Sealing of each of the upper and lower edges of the cloth 8 is effected by boring holes in the top and bottom of the frame so formed, and dipping in a charged mould to form a bonded layer 15. The frame may include a reinforcing metal strip 9 and in a modification may include an outer channelsectioned metal frame into which resin is cast. The frame may be of annular shape and the filter cloth arranged in the form of a cage through which liquid flows in either direction.</p> |
