PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which has an easy production process and a long life-span.

SOLUTION: The device is provided with two or more electrodes which face each other on a substrate, and a hole injection/transport layer disposed between two of the electrodes. The hole injection/transport layer contains nanoparticles containing at least one transition metal compound, which are characterized in that a protective agent having a hydrophobic organic group is linked, by means of a linking group, to the transition metal compound containing one or more kinds selected from the group comprising at least a transition metal carbide oxide, a transition metal nitride oxide, and a transition metal sulfide oxide.
