PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently transmit the fastening axial force of a bolt in the peripheral portion to the principal seal surface by continuously opening a coolant jacket to the cylinder block side in the periphery of a single cylinder arrangement zone or in the periphery of a plural cylinder arrangement zone so as to be advantageous for cooling. SOLUTION: A bolt fastening part 4 is provided in side walls 2, 3 on both sides of a coolant jacket 1. An annular open window 7 is formed for opening the coolant jacket 1 continuously to the surface joined with a cylinder block in the periphery of a single cylinder S arrangement zone or in the periphery of a multiple cylinder S arrangement zone of a deck wall 5 in a lower part of the coolant jacket 1. An axial force transmission rib 13 is provided for connecting the deck wall center zone 5b surrounded by the open window and the ceiling wall in an upper part of the coolant jacket 1 for transmitting the fastening axial force in the bolt fastening part 4 to the principal seal surface 12 in the periphery of the cylinder bore 11 in the joint surface with the cylinder block.
