An airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The airbag module comprising an airbag, a gas generator and an gas generator support and comprises a visible surface facing the vehicle interior in the installed state formed by different segments of the airbag module. At least two of the segments comprise optically and/or haptically different surfaces and are mechanically connected to each other by means of mechanical interfaces such that the mechanical connection between the segments is at least partially released when triggered by opening the interfaces so that an opening is formed in the visible surface through which the airbag can exit the airbag module. All segments contributing to the formation of an opening for the airbag by opening an interface when triggered are thereby directly fastened to the gas generator support.
