The method involves limiting alteration of rotational torque of a drive machine (2) i.e. internal combustion engine, during requirement for the rotational torque for observing exhaust gas values. A current rate of utilization of a gear box device (3) is determined and confronted to the torque requirement. A rotational torque difference between the rate of utilization of the device and the torque requirement is partly balanced by reduction of a drive machine-side rotational torque used for propulsion of an auxiliary equipment (9) up to a maximum permissible rate of utilization of the device.
