<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new organic/inorganic hybrid membranes improved in membrane properties. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided new organic/inorganic hybrid membranes which have the following materials: a polymer acid containing SO<SB>3</SB>H, PO<SB>3</SB>H<SB>2</SB>, COOH or B(OH)<SB>2</SB>; an (optional) polymeric base, which contains primary, secondary or tertiary amino, pyridine, imidazole, benzimidazole, triazole, benzotriazole, pyrazole or benzopyrazole, either in the side chain or in the main chain; an (optional) additional polymeric base containing the basic groups; an element or metal oxide or hydroxide, which is obtained by hydrolysis and/or sol-gel reaction of an organoelemental and/or organometallic compound during the membrane forming process and/or by a posttreatment of the membrane in an acidic, alkaline or neutral electrolytic aqueous solution.
