The outer diameter of the main bearing of an electric motor is reduced to be smaller than the outer diameter of a rotor without causing a drop in production efficiency. Moreover, workability is improved during the shrink-fitting step by being able to attach the rotor to a main shaft at an early stage. The bearing journal (14b) of the main shaft (14) of an electric motor is formed, from both sides in the axial direction of the bearing journal (14b), into a shape in which the inner race (18b) of a main bearing (18) can be press-fitted. Additionally, the outer diameter of the bearing journal (14b) is increased to be bigger than the outer diameter of a rotor press-fit section (14a). Meanwhile, the bearing bore (5a) of a partitioning member (5) is formed, from both sides in the axial direction of the bearing bore (5a), into a shape in which an outer race (18a) can be press-fitted. Preferably, a space (S), through which it is possible to insert a press-fitting tool for press-fitting the main bearing (18), is disposed between the bearing journal (14b) and the rotor press-fit section (14a) of the main shaft (14).
