METHOD FOR PRODUCING ASYMMETRIC ESTER USING POLYMER-SUPPORTED GOLD CLUSTER CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reaction system producible of an asymmetric ester using a plurality of different alcohols and carrying out an esterification reaction using a recoverable, reusable catalyst under a room temperature condition.

SOLUTION: The method is for producing the asymmetric ester represented by the formula: R-COO-R' (wherein R and R' are different from each other and each represents alkyl group or polyalkylene oxide group) by mixing two compounds represented by formula (a): R-CH2OH or R-CHO and formula (b): R'-OH (wherein R and R' are as defined above) in a liquid phase in the presence of a polymer-supported gold cluster catalyst in an oxygen atmosphere at room temperature.
