The method involves sequentially detecting travel data by a car sensor device (4) while operating a motor car (1). The travel data is transmitted to a system selection device (6) for evaluation during operation of the motor car. A driver assistance system (2) in the motor car is selected for activation by the system selection device as a function of a result of the evaluation during momentary travel of the motor car. An output device (8) e.g. optical and/or acoustic output device, is connected with the system selection device. An independent claim is also included for a motor car.
