<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element that can make productivity and condensing performance of microlenses compatible even with a larger pixel pitch, and to provide a projection type liquid crystal display device equipped with such liquid crystal display element. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes: a first substrate having a microlens array in which a plurality of microlenses are two-dimensionally arrayed; a liquid crystal layer that is formed on the light emitting side of the first substrate and that can modulate incident light from the first substrate by pixel; and a second substrate that is formed on the light emitting side of the liquid crystal layer and that has a light shielding layer for defining the opening of the pixels. In the liquid crystal display element, the microlenses are provided in plurality for each opening, wherein the optical axes are arranged closer to the center side of the opening with respect to the center of the lens shape. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
