PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of preventing the increase in the size of the imaging apparatus by simplifying a mechanism, without having to increase the number of portions and of observing easy-to-see finder visual field images, and to provide a control method. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an imaging apparatus body 100 having an in-finder display portion 115 and a magnifire 120 having an in-magnifire display portion 118. When an imaging range observed by an observer is switched, from a first imaging range 109 to a second imaging range 110, and when the magnifier 120 is attached to the imaging apparatus body 100, the CPU 101 of the imaging apparatus performs the next display: the photographic information of the in-finder display portion 115 is displayed in the vicinity of the outside of the imaging range 110 via an information transmitting portion 131 by the in-magnifire display portion 118.
