Disclosed is a display system that uses a shutter device and that can achieve high level of freedom in setting the opening/closing timing of a shutter while reducing consumed electrical power of a transmission unit that transmits a shutter control signal. The system is provided with: a display unit (12) that performs time-division display in alternation of a left-eye image and a right-eye image; and a shutter control code generating unit (shutter control unit (15)) that generates a shutter control code (control code (C)) for switch-controlling the opening/closing of a left-eye shutter (6L) and a right-eye shutter (6R) in a manner synchronized with the switching of the left-eye image and the right-eye image. The shutter control code contains: opening-operation timing information (command bit (CB)) instructing the start point of the opening operation of the left-eye shutter (6L) or the right-eye shutter (6R); and open time information (duty flag (DF) and duty bit (DB), or duty flag (DF)) indicating the open time of the left-eye shutter or the right-eye shutter.
