<p>The controlled radical polymerization of functionalized vinyl monomers is described. The polymerization takes place in the presence of a free radical initiator and a vanadium based catalyst. Suitable monomers include styrenes, acrylates, methacrylates, acrylonitrile and isobutylene. The vanadium based catalyst comprises a non-innocent ligand. In preferred embodiments, the non-innocent ligand is selected from the group consisting of alpha-diimine ligands, 1,2-dithiolate ligands, 2,2'-bipyridine ligands, porphyrins, pthalocyanines, dioxalenes, dithiolenes and bis(imino)pyridines.</p> |
