<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform good recording as a whole by appropriately performing substitutional recording for each of the case where a recording order cannot be maintained such as the case where a relative position of a nozzle to a recording medium does not change, and the case where a recording order can be maintained in an ink jet recording apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Whether it is a region where recording is performed without paper transfer is determined (S805). When it is determined as a recording region with paper transfer, a nozzle for substitutional ejection is selected from nozzles in a use nozzle range specified so as to make the recording order constant among other nozzles in a Bk nozzle array where a non-ejection nozzle is present (S806).
