Apparatus for separating solids from fluids comprises a rotor 1 and radial vanes 6 rotating at a slightly different speed from that of the rotor. The vanes are joined together by a disc 7 and are attached to tubular members 9, 10 communicating with the interior of the rotor and forming respectively the inlet for the mixture and the outlet for the cleaned fluid. Separated solids collecting at the periphery of the rotor are led by passages 20 to an annular chamber 21 having an outlet 22. The rotor and vanes are driven by pinions 14 . . . 17. In the modification shown in Fig. 7 the inner periphery of the rotor has corrugations 43 and the solids pass through apertures 44 to the passages 20. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the periphery of the rotor is cylindrical and the vanes carry a screw which conveys the separated solids to the passages 20.
