PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plated wire material which are to be used as a material for a metal terminal, having novel construction that improves the manufacturing efficiency of the metal terminal, as well as, reduces cost. SOLUTION: The cross section of a metal wire material 12, formed of a conductive metal material and on which a plated layer 14 is formed, is shaped octagonal. It has two sets of a pair of opposite sides 16a, 16e and a pair of opposite sides 16c, 16g, each extending parallel at a mutually equal length, and the opposite direction of the opposite sides 16a, 16e and the opposite direction of the opposite sides 16c, 16g are mutually orthogonal.
