METHOD FOR PURIFYING ALUMINUM AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

Disclosed is a method for purifying aluminum, which is capable of removing impurity components such as Zn and Mg in molten aluminum without requiring an agitation device and without extremely lowering the vacuum degree. The method for purifying aluminum is capable of minimizing the occurrence of a trouble caused by metal vapor. Also disclosed is a purification apparatus which is capable of carrying out the method. Specifically, elements having high vapor pressures are evaporated and removed from molten aluminum by heating the molten aluminum introduced into a furnace by arc discharge and maintaining the molten aluminum temperature at 700-1,000°C and the average vacuum degree of the atmosphere in the furnace at 20-1,000 Pa.
