<p>A packing element (2,30,40,42,44) for use in a tower (A) that effects heat transfer or chemical reactions curves about a transverse axis (y) and in transverse cross section resembles the letter "M", with the outer legs (18) and center segment (12) of the M-shaped configuration projecting toward the axis (y). The elements (2,30,40,42,44) when assembled in the tower (A) do not nest, present a large surface area to enhance heat transfer or chemical reactions, and provide a large void fraction to facilitate flow through the tower (A).</p> |
