PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide appropriate strength after forming without generating any cracks during formation of a box-shaped blank having an opening. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a compressed wood product includes: the blank forming step of forming a blank formed into a box shape having a flat main plate part having a roughly rectangular main surface and a side plate part curved obliquely to the main plate part from the peripheral edge of the main plate part to extend and having a round opening end surface, where the fiber direction of wood is roughly parallel to the main surface of the main plate part, and intersects roughly rectangular four sides constituting the outer edge of the main surface on the main surface; the softening step of softening the blank formed during the blank forming step; the compression step of deforming, by applying a compression force to the blank softened during the softening step, the blank into a box shape to be smaller in volume and different from that before the softening step; and the fixing step of fixing the shape of the blank deformed during the compression step, are provided.
