PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize influence exerted on detection accuracy of a magnetostrictive torque sensor by the bending moment acting on a pinion shaft of a steering gear box, in an electric power steering device having the magnetostrictive torque sensor. SOLUTION: A steering shaft of the electric power steering device is constituted of an upper steering shaft 12 integrally rotating with a steering wheel 11 and a lower steering shaft 14 connecting the upper end to the upper steering shaft 12 via a first universal joint 13 and connecting the lower end to a pinion shaft 21 of a steering gear box 16 via a second universal joint 15. The magnetostrictive torque sensor 34 is arranged on the upper steering shaft 12, and a steering actuator 17 is arranged on the upper steering shaft 12 between the magnetostrictive torque sensor 34 and the first universal joint 13.
