A packet 100 for tobacco comprises a container 2 with a lid 4 attached to the container 2. The container 2 comprises front and rear panels, two side opposing panels 12 and an end panel 16, with an opening A2 provided opposite the end panel 16. The lid 4 is hingedly attached to the rear panel and is operable to extend across the opening A2 and at least part of the front panel 8. The lid 4 comprises two or more consecutive lid panels 20, 22 with the first lid panel 20 providing the hinged attachment to the rear panel and the last 22 of the two or more consecutive lid panels having engaging means 24 which is operable to engage with the container 2. The packet 100 contains a pouch P for containing tobacco, wherein a surface of the pouch P that corresponds with the rear panel of the container is extendible onto an inside surface of the lid 4.
