What is proposed is a method for the detection of a side tackling crash of a vehicle (301), which comprises a step of receiving sensor information designed to indicate side crash events acting on different areas of the vehicle. Furthermore, longitudinal acceleration values and transverse acceleration values are received and summed up in order to determine summation values of the longitudinal acceleration and summation values of the transverse acceleration. The summation values are correlated in order to receive correlation values. In a further step, there is effected providing information on a side tackling crash detected, when the correlation values are within a predetermined value range and the sensor information indicates side crash events acting in a manner temporally offset from one another.
