PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup element capable of reducing image distortion of an MOS type solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup element includes: a plurality of pixels that are arranged in a matrix for outputting a pixel signal corresponding to the amount of incident light; a vertical scanning circuit which generates drive signals for driving the plurality of pixels and selection signals for selecting the plurality of pixels in units of rows, and supplying them to the pixels for each row; a column signal line which is provided for each column of the plurality of pixels, for transferring the pixel signal outputted from the pixel; a plurality of storage portions provided to each column signal line for storing the pixel signal transferred from the column signal line; and a CDS circuit provided for each column signal line to remove noise from the pixel signal stored in the storage portion by correlative double detection. The durations of effective periods of drive signals RESET and TRAN supplied to each row are identical.
