830,690. Spraying fusible materials. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. April 30, 1956 [May 2, 1955], No. 13125/56. Class 69 (3). A flame spray gun has a fuel injector 14 at one end of a burner 11 provided with a cylindrical barrel 13, and fuel gas is fed to the injector through a line 24 whilst powder to be sprayed is supplied in a carrier gas, e.g. hydrogen, to a nipple 27. The fuel and powder mix in an injector nozzle 19 before passing into a combustion throat 21 to which oxygen is delivered via a line 25. The combustion mixture burns in the throat, and combustion gases together with the spray particles are discharged at high velocity from an outlet 30. A sleeve 31 provides a cooling jacket through which coolant water is circulated via inlet 33 and outlet 34. The spray material may be fed to the burner as a suspension in the oxygen or as a suspension in a combustible mixture. Alter-' natively it may be introduced in rod form, and in this case the rod is fed axially through the rear of the injector 14 and its forward end projects from the nozzle 19 into the throat 21.
|
