QUANTIFICATION OF BOVINE POLYOMAVIRUS (BPYV) FOR TRACING BOVINE CONTAMINATION IN THE ENVIRONMENT

The invention relates to a specific assay for the detection and/or quantification of bovine polyomavirus (BPyV) present in samples of bovine urine, feed or fertilisers, as well as in environmental samples including waste water and river water. The assay is based on the use of oligonucleotides for the specific amplification of a fragment of the VP1 gene of BPyV by means of quantitative PCR or semi-nested PCR. The invention relates to a quantitative method for tracing the origin of BPyV contamination in samples.
