Highly-monodispersed controlled-morphology nanoparticles are obtained through a modified Stöber sol-gel process. Controlled-morphology hybrid silica nanoparticles presenting uniform size or shape, or both characteristics, contain: i) an aliphatic amine of 2 - 20 carbon atoms, or ii) an alkoxide compound selected from the group comprising silicon alkoxide (R'(x)-Si-(OR")(4-x)) and/or titanium alkoxide (R'(x)- Ti-(OR")(4-x)) and/or zirconium alkoxide (R'(x)-Zr-(OR")(4-x)), wherein group R' may be the same as or differ from R", and group R in the chemical structure has from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and/or iii) the mixture of the alkoxides, and/or iv) a combination of the aliphatic amines with the alkoxide compounds which may contain from one to four alkoxy groups. |
