PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retainer capable of retaining a subject animal without giving overstress to the subject animal and safely and surely fixing it so that the head does not move especially. SOLUTION: The retainer includes: a base; two support columns erected on the base; a trunk fixing plate horizontally disposed to the support columns, for fixing the trunk of the subject animal; a head fixing arm provided on the rear side of the subject animal on the base and extended to the upper front side, for pressing the head of the subject animal from the upper side; and a jaw base provided on the base to be abutted to the jaw part of the subject animal from the lower side. For the trunk fixing plate, an upper side plate and a lower side plate are piled up, at least one plate has a curved part curved in a direction opposite to the other plate, and between the upper side plate and the lower side plate, a trunk clamping space is formed.
