PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform area setting, without the need for a user to perform an operation for area designation, in a television signal receiver. SOLUTION: The television signal receiver selects a physical channel (#2) and when a television signal can be received (#3: YES), the television signal receiver acquires, from the television signal (the television signal of a physical channel determined to be receivable): LCN information indicating a logical channel number assigned to the physical channel; and frequency offset information indicating offset of a broadcasting frequency of the physical channel (#4). Then, an area in which the television signal receiver is installed is determined by collating the LCN information and the frequency offset information acquired from the television signal with LCN information and frequency offset information in an area information table stored beforehand (#6) and area setting is automatically performed (#7).
