Method and system for predicting a location based orthogonality factor in a UMTS downlink

The present disclosure provides a method for predicting a location based orthogonality factor in a UMTS downlink, the method applying the difference between a predicted path loss and a free space path loss, establishing a correlation between that difference, designated as excess path loss, and the orthogonality factor and using as input values for the orthogonality factor which are derived from simultaneously HSDPA and pilot signal measurements based on a reliable mapping from a reported channel quality indicator to a ratio from carrier to interference power.
