Roll winding device and method for winding a sheet of material

The roll winder (1) has a roller (6) placed in a roller bearing and lying against a winding roll (3). The winding and movable roller bearing is connected with a support by a damping unit. The roller bearing comprises a cylinder and a piston movably arranged in the cylinder. A frictionless sealing is provided between the cylinder and the piston. The frictionless sealing is formed as contact-less sealing, particularly as gap sealing, labyrinth sealing or air sealing. An independent claim is also included for a method for winding a material web, particularly a paper- or cardboard web on a winding core, particularly a winding sleeve to a winding roll.
