Soil cleaning method comprising an oxygen source and an alkalinity source

Disclosed is a method for removing soil, such as food, from a hard surface comprising: (a) applying a cleaning composition comprising an active oxygen source such as hydrogen peroxide or a peroxycarboxylic acid, and a source of alkalinity, wherein the composition is stable for about 4-72 hours at room temperature; (b) activating the composition using heat or an activator complex to generate oxygen gas on and in the soil; and (c) removing the composition from the surface after an amount of time sufficient to facilitate soil removal.
