<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a laser beam machining method with which higher precision and microfabrication can be achieved by eliminating thermal effect. <P>SOLUTION: In the laser beam machining method, a forming roll 50 is irradiated with an ultrashort pulse laser from an irradiation head 21 to decorate the surface of the forming roll 50 three-dimensionally. The forming roll 50 is rotated at prescribed speed, and the irradiation head 21 is moved at prescribed speed along a ball screw 15. While the output of the ultrashort pulse laser is kept constant, scanning is performed several times to a prescribed depth, and the focal point of the ultrashort pulse laser is set deeper for each scanning.
