PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic sign recognition device and a traffic sign recognition method capable of determining accurately and highly speedily whether a lane on which a vehicle travels is a specific lane. SOLUTION: A traffic sign recognition device includes a camera, a lane mark detection unit for detecting a lane mark on the basis of an image photographed by the camera, a specific traffic sign detection unit for detecting a specific traffic sign on the basis of an image photographed by the camera, a travel distance calculation unit for calculating a travel distance of an own vehicle, and a specific traffic sign presence determination unit for determining whether the own vehicle travels on a specific lane when a specific traffic sign is detected on a lane on which the own vehicle travels before the vehicle travels a predetermined distance. The lane mark detection unit identifies a right-side lane mark and a left-side lane mark relative to the lane on which the own vehicle travels, and the specific traffic sign presence unit determines that the own vehicle travels on the specific lane when a position of the specific traffic sign is located between a position of the right-side lane mark and a position of the left-side lane mark.
