PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method and an inspection device for the inspection of an identification line having superior accuracy and efficiency. SOLUTION: The inspection method of the identification line 28 of a tire tread includes a step of detecting the left and right edge position of a rubber sheet 16 from image data obtained by a camera 20. The center position of the rubber sheet 16 is calculated from the left and right edge position. A detection area of the image data is set for detecting the position of the identification line using the center position as a reference. The position of the identification line in this detection area is detected. An inspection area of the image data is set based on the position of the detected identification line. The identification line is inspected in this inspection area. The inspection device 12 includes, to perform this inspection method, a conveying part 18, the camera 20, an image processing part 22, a recording part 24, and a calculation part 26.
