PURPOSE: A semiconductor light emitting device and manufacturing method thereof are provided to eliminate a lift off process for eliminating a substrate to reduce defects during a laser lift off process, thereby increasing the yield of the semiconductor light emitting device. CONSTITUTION: An active layer(400) is arranged in the lower part of a p-type semiconductor layer. An n-type semiconductor layer(300) is arranged in the lower part of the active layer. A substrate(100) is arranged in the lower part of the n-type semiconductor layer. A penetration hole(110) exposes a part of the n-type semiconductor layer by penetrating the substrate. A first metal layer(600) is arranged in the lower parts of the penetration hole and the substrate.
