PURPOSE: A semantic-based POI search system and method thereof are provided to enable the search for the semantic-based POI by expressing the data that navigation or GIS application uses on the basis of the ontology. CONSTITUTION: A point of interest(POI) related database is expressed using the ontology. A semantic spatial query induces new knowledge through the semantic-based linkage or induction and expands the search range of the POI. A semantic-based POI search system searches for the POI related database using the semantic spatial query.
