The method involves attaching a diagnosis- and/or test device to a controller, where the diagnosis- and/or test device transmits control commands to the controller to detect measured values and/or parameters e.g. mechanical dimension and physical interaction of a parallel shift gear, that are stored in a diagnosis protocol. Error feedback is transmitted to the diagnosis- and/or test device during occurrence of failures or errors. The measured values and/or parameters are read from the protocol, and are specified using an error indicator during occurrence of the failures or errors.
