<p>There is provided a transducer that is particularly useful for producing an output voltage from which the position of the core of the transducer and anything connected to it can be deduced. The transducer includes a support member which has a hollow opening that receives a movable core. A primary coil that can be connected to an AC source is mounted on the support member, while a secondary coil is mounted around the primary coil. Axially spaced along the length of the secondary coil are a plurality of electrically conductive links that connect spaced turns of the secondary coil. The ends of the secondary coil can be connected to output means which are responsive to the electric current induced in the secondary coil to generate an output voltage having predetermined characteristics. The number and position of the electrically conductive links in the secondary coil determine the characteristics of the output voltage the characteristics of the output voltage are varied by shorting out at appropriate intervals along the length of the secondary coil a number of turns of the secondary coil, this being achieved by means of the links.</p> |
