摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To forcibly regenerate a particulate filter in every possible operating condition by exhibiting the activity of the oxidation catalyst of a catalytic device immediately before a filter without depending on the operating situation of an internal combustion engine and further promoting the activity. <P>SOLUTION: In the filter regeneration device for the internal combustion engine, an auxiliary heating device 40 is provided upstream of an exhaust gas from the catalytic device 30 immediately before the filter in an exhaust passage 10 so that the cross-sectional surface of the auxiliary heating device occupies part of the exhaust passage when viewed in an exhaust gas flow direction. The auxiliary heating device includes: a cylindrical casing 43; an auxiliary catalytic device 41 having the oxidation catalyst; an auxiliary fuel supply section 42 supplying auxiliary fuel supplied from the outside of the exhaust passage to the exhaust gas upstream side of the auxiliary catalytic device; and a heat generating device 45 heating the auxiliary catalytic device. When the particulate filter is clogged, the heat generating device is operated if the temperature of the auxiliary catalytic device is below the activating temperature of the oxidation catalyst, and the auxiliary fuel is supplied by the auxiliary fuel supply section if the auxiliary catalytic device is higher than the activation temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
