In a street lighting column an upper part 1 is provided with a depending portion 3 by which it is hinged at 6 to a lower part 2 so that the upper part can be turned about the hinge to bring it within reach of the ground. As shown in Fig. 1 the parts are locked together by a bolt 12 and a torsion spring 9 counter-balances the weight of the upper part. An opening 8 for control gear is provided in the lower part and is closed by the portion 3. In an embodiment, Fig. 3, the upper part fits over the lower part at 13 and the hinge 15 is eccentrically mounted whereby the parts are initially separated prior to their relative rotation. To lower the upper part 1 of this second embodiment a key is provided to turn the eccentrics, the key being part of a separate apparatus which is applied to the column to lower it and which includes a compression spring counterbalancing the weight of the part 1. |
