In spout connectors for machines for processing and conveying granular materials comprising the interposition between upper and lower spouts a, b, Fig. 1, of a substantially rigid tubular member c, flexible and resilient means which in section are wholly or partly of inverted U or of tubular form make joints between the ends of the spouts and member to allow of articulation movements and limited relative longitudinal movement between and along the axis of the assembly, means being provided for holding the rings against displacement. As shown in Fig. 1, the member c has an enlargement d which,extends over the spout a and is provided with a recess into which is sprung the flange f of a U-shaped, moulded rubber ring e, that flange being held in place by a split spring ring h, the lower end of the pipe a having alip g to ensure that the ring e is correctly positioned on the spout prior to insertion of the ring in the enlargement d. The lower end of the member c telescopes into the spout b and is sealed therewith by a similar ring e. In a modification, the upper end of a member t, Fig. 3, is formed in two parts o, p, the part o being fixed to the member and having bayonet slots r, and the part p having an enlargement d in which the ring e is secured by a split spring ring h and bayonet pins q engaging in the slots r, there being a sealing ring s between the parts. The lower spout b is provided with an opening v to permit access to the interior of the spout, that opening being closable by a sleeve w slidable around the pipe and having a window x of transparent material. The window can be brought into coincidence with the opening v and is cleaned of adhering material by a piece of plush secured to the pipe ; alternatively, the sleeve w is transparent. In further modifications, (a) Fig. 2 (not shown) the rings e are tubular in form, and (b) one limb of the U-shaped ring e, Fig. 5, is turned to extend in a direction opposite to that of the other limb and surrounds the spout a. |
